Dear Ben: I’ll continue the fight against the destruction of the right

Dear Ben Milligan:

I’m so proud of you for being politically active and caring about our nation’s future. I appreciate the question you posed to me on Facebook last week after I posted this meme.

In case you need a reminder, here’s the question you asked:

“Tom…first off, you know I respect you and admire your political knowledge. However, do you feel like your political tenacity and knowledge goes to waste at all? Yes you can take shots at POTUS and a lot of it is justified, but with the rise of socialism and Marxism in this country, isn’t there more to address than just the POTUS you don’t agree with? I just feel like I never see you lay the same heat on AOC, Bernie, Warren, etc.”.

Well Ben, of course I appreciate the flattery, but more than that, I love that your question forced me to consider if I should focus my political musings on AOC (Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) et al?

After some serious and deep introspection, the answer is no. In other words, I’m focused right where I need to be … for now.

You see Ben, I’m ashamed to admit that prior to 2008, like many Americans, I would simply vote for the person I thought would do the best job. The candidates’ respective party, platform, and politics were not important.

I’m equally ashamed to admit that my political naiveté allowed me to get caught up in Obama’s “Hope and Change” message that you’re probably too young to remember – but are now old enough fall for even though it’s coming from Donald Trump.

2008 was exciting because it pitted the young Obama against old man McCain. I also have to admit that at least a part of my excitement is due to Obama’s being black because I naively thought if we elected a black man, that it would be proof that racism had been conquered once and for all.

I was sold! I even went out and bought Obama’s book The Audacity of Hope.

As you know, I was wrong on all counts. Obama screwed us all. He sucked. But make no mistake, the GOP screwed up as well. Instead of finding a way to move the country forward on conservative principles, their sole strategy was to ensure that Obama was a one-term President. That was narrow-minded and stupid.

That’s when I realized that party, platform, and politics all play an important role in our nation and that I’d better start paying attention.

This political awakening got me to read the U.S. Constitution and to learn about its history by reading books like The Making of America by Cleon Skousen. I actively supported Mitt Romney’s run against Obama in 2012 and when he lost, my newborn political soul was crushed.

Over the next few years, as I read and learned more, I became more conservative in my views and came to hold strong Tenther beliefs. I read The Liberty Amendments by Mark Levin (written before he became Trump’s chief sycophant) and Our Lost Constitution by Sen. Mike Lee (written before he came out as a leftist).

To share my newfound conservative beliefs, I created a YouTube channel and started posting videos denouncing the hypocrisy, lies, and unconstitutional acts committed by then President Obama.

As the 2016 election cycle began, I made more videos about several candidates – including Trump – denouncing their hypocrisy, lies, and unconstitutional plans.

At this point Ben, I want you to close your eyes and imagine what our nation would look like if Hillary had won in 2016. Of course, there’s no doubt we’d have a more liberal SCOTUS. But do you know what else we’d have? We’d have a conservative movement that would fight as one for limited government, fiscal responsibility, and family values.

Now open your eyes. Since Trump won, in exchange for some good SCOTUS picks, conservatives have abandoned everything else they used to hold dear: limited government, fiscal responsibility, and family values.

Trumpism is destroying the GOP and has severely fractured the conservative movement. Sadly, many prominent so-called “conservatives” – including Levin and Lee – have gone along all-too willingly.

As the 2020 field shapes up, I’m sure I’ll start taking shots at the left. Until then, I’ll continue the fight against the destruction of the right and our nation.

Love always,

Uncle Tom

PS: Are you coming to the BBQ next week?
