In the days following Trump’s Obama-esque State of the Union address last week, we witnessed an avalanche of outrage by members of the so-called conservative media, along with the Trump chorus line and establishment Republicans—but I repeat myself—over the behavior of Democrats in attendance.
From Nancy Pelosi’s “Tide-pod challenge” facial expressions to Chuck Schumer’s “house mom” attempt to control Democrat senators, representatives of the party of Obama were clearly perturbed.
Perhaps no group of Democrats were more unhappy than the Congressional Black Caucus who, as you might expect, resorted to the classic fallback position of boiling policy decisions down to the color of one’s skin. Isn’t it ironic that on the eve of Black History Month, the CBC would forget Martin Luther King’s historic “I have a dream” speech and the whole judging others by the content of their character instead of the color of their skin?
Refusing to acknowledge news considered “good” by the opposing party—usually by remaining seated—has been standard operating procedure during State of the Union addresses for decades as a form of free speech. And while it can be argued that Democrats acted unbecomingly, criticizing them for doing what Republicans have done under Democrat presidents is hypocritical and un-American.
Speaking of un-American, Donald Trump played the Joe Arpaio treason card yesterday by accusing Democrats who criticized him and refused to sing his praises during the State of the Union of being “un-American” and “treasonous” simply for exercising their First Amendment right.
President Trump told a Cincinnati crowd that Democrats’ “dead silence” at his State of the Union address was “un-American” and even “treasonous.”

Ironic when you consider how Trump has been un-American in his open hostility to the First Amendment.
Such hyperbole is common for the Narcissist-in-Chief, but to say that Democrats have betrayed the country and are attempting to overthrow the government (the definition of treason) simply for holding views contrary to his is, in fact, the type of tyrannical behavior that Teddy Roosevelt considered “morally treasonable to the American public.”
