RNC plans to cancel 2020 primaries and coronate Trump as the nominee

When Trump surrendered to Nancy Pelosi Wednesday night by agreeing to postpone his State of the Union address until after the government shutdown is over, he essentially confirmed what we’ve always known about him; he’s an egomaniacal narcissist who possesses no core values or convictions and whose only loyalty is to himself.

Considering his latest average approval ratings — currently a whopping 37 percent due to his ineffective presidency — it would probably be better for Trump to tweet his SOTU and pass on the TV face time he’s addicted to almost as much as Republicans are addicted to spending our money.

As the man Orrin Hatch allegedly called “the greatest [president] in the history of our country,” Trump believes that he’s been an overwhelming success, and the Republican National Committee apparently agrees. So much so that the former party of Reagan is preparing to coronate Trump’s nomination for 2020 and skip the primaries altogether.

On Wednesday, the RNC’s Resolution Committee passed a resolution that effectively cancels the GOP’s 2020 primary. In a unanimous vote, the resolutions committee passed a proposal to give Trump “undivided support” due to his “effective presidency.” The proposal now moves to the full RNC where, if approved, it will be officially adopted by the party. That vote is expected to take place today.

Whether it’s adopted by the RNC’s governing body or not is irrelevant, but it proves the depths the GOP is prepared to sink to in their vain attempt to save the party from self-destruction.

This proposal first got its legs following a critique of Trump by Sen. Mitt Romney earlier this month when an RNC committeeman representing the Virgin Islands sent an email to fellow members asking the party to change the rules, endorse Trump, and declare him defacto nominee in order to head off any primary challengers.

The GOP is also pushing for a Trump coronation at the state level. Last month, the South Carolina GOP proposed eliminating their primary for 2020, and the Kansas GOP announced yesterday their intention to do the same. While primaries have been cancelled at the state level before, it comes with a risk when you consider the downward trajectory of Trump’s approval numbers.

And here’s an irony for you. Trump complained about the RNC in 2016, accusing them of using a “rigged” system against him and controlling the distribution of delegates.

The Republican party continues to prove that they are no different than the Democrats and that they are no friend to conservatives.
