Will third-party fever become an epidemic that destroys the unibrow?

As 2018 was winding to a close following the blood bath that the conservative movement suffered at the hands of Trump and the GOP in the midterm elections, I wrote an article expressing my determination to press on toward conservatism, Federalist ideals, and an Article V convention as the only hope for restoring liberty.

Clearly, the 2018 midterms proved what conservatives have known for many years now: Republicans are no different than Democrats, and conservatives no longer have a home within the former Party of Reagan. Faced with this reality, nothing short of a political revolutionary war fought against the Democrat/Republican duopoly in defense of the three goals I mentioned above will save America.

My commitment to Federalist ideals first began with my involvement with the Federalist Party, a grass-roots effort to create a viable third-party alternative to the two-headed swamp monster running things in Washington. While the Federalist Party hasn’t done much so far, the idea lives on in similar groups like the Federalist Party of America.

Despite the odds being against us, the day when we will realize the creation of a third party could be much closer than the establishment would like to think.

According to a POLITICO/Morning Consult poll released earlier this week, exactly half of all registered voters not only support the idea of a third party, but they say that one “is needed,” including 45 percent of Republicans, 45 percent of Democrats, and 63 percent of Independents. Additionally, 35 percent of respondents said they would likely vote for someone other than the Democrat or Republican in the 2020 election.

The poll of 1,993 registered voters was conducted on February 1st and 2nd and also revealed dismal approval ratings for the two-party duopoly with only 22 percent of voters overall saying that they are doing an “adequate job” of representing the American people.

One interesting demographic in the survey showed that 26 percent of voters who APPROVE of Trump’s job performance were somewhat or very likely to consider a third-party candidate over Trump and his TBD Democrat opponent. When you combine this number with another recent POLITICO/Morning Consult poll that shows 52 percent of voters will “definitely” vote for someone other than Trump — only one-in-four said they will definitely vote to re-elect him — this new enthusiasm for a third party is bad news for the Trump Train.

But in the end, it’s good news for those of us who realize that the unibrow party only works for itself and not for the American people and that only a new third party can change that.
