Trump launching AI U.S. Tech Force: Say goodbye to liberty, hello to fascism
Last week, Donald Trump announced a new initiative called the “U.S. Tech Force” to build out AI infrastructure through direct partnerships between private-sector tech giants and the federal government. If he succeeds, you can say goodbye to liberty and hello to fascism and the authoritarian state.
The “U.S. Tech Force” will be comprised of about 1,000 engineers and other specialists who will perform their tasks on behalf of the federal government (via Technocracy News):
Participants will commit to a two-year employment program working with teams that report directly to government agency leaders in “collaboration with leading technology companies,” according to an official government website.
The government’s list of “private sector partners” reads like a who’s who of the most monopolistic corporate tech giants on earth: Amazon Web Services, Apple, Google Public Sector, Dell Technologies, Microsoft, Nvidia, OpenAI, Oracle, Palantir, Salesforce and numerous others, the website says.
This is a remarkable example of how America has become less of a republic and more of a fascist system, where a centralized government collaborates with big corporations to create a staggering web of all-powerful public-private partnerships. This is the World Economic Forum model at work. Is it any wonder that Trump counts Larry Fink, the BlackRock CEO and co-chair of the WEF, as one of his closest friends in the business world? Trump, in fact, just put Fink in charge of rebuilding Ukraine after its war with Russia is over.
Trump’s new “Tech Force” initiative was announced four days after the president signed an executive order aimed at establishing a national AI policy that attempts to ban states from adopting their own AI regulations. This is patently unconstitutional and will be challenged in the courts by governors of red and blue states alike, so it remains to be seen if Trump will get away with it.
This may be one of the clearest examples yet of how Trump envisions the future of America. Where the government and the biggest, most monopolistic corporations run the show and have the complete favor of the government on their side. Notice there is no mention of the need for small and medium-sized businesses to help accomplish the desired results. It’s all about the bloated government working alongside the largest corporate behemoths.
“We’re trying to reshape the workforce to make sure we have the right talent on the right problems,” U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director Scott Kupor told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Monday morning.
The engineering corps will be working on “high-impact technology initiatives including AI implementation, application development, data modernization, and digital service delivery across federal agencies,” the site says.
This will solidify the tech bros’ goal of replacing most government bureaucracies with AI. That may sound good on the surface. Nobody loves bureaucrats. But at least they are human and sometimes they will cut you some slack. Don’t count on the same when you get singled out for oppression and your case boils down to you against an algorithm. In his first few days in office, Trump announced the “Stargate Project,” an AI Infrastructure project with the expressed goal of destroying liberty, and in the end, humanity (via Ars Technica):
OpenAI, SoftBank, Oracle, and MGX announced plans to form Stargate, a new company that will invest $500 billion in AI computing infrastructure across the United States over four years. The announcement came during a White House meeting with President Donald Trump, who called it the “largest AI infrastructure project in history.”
OpenAI says the goal of Stargate is to kickstart building more data centers to expand computing capacity for current and future AI projects, including OpenAI’s goal of “AGI,” which the company defines as a highly autonomous AI system that “outperforms humans at most economically valuable work.” (Emphasis mine)
Say hello to George Orwell’s 1984 and the beginning of a China-inspired social credit system (via Ars Technica):
Ellison shared his vision for an AI-powered surveillance future during a company financial meeting, reports Business Insider. During an investor Q&A, Ellison described a world where artificial intelligence systems would constantly monitor citizens through an extensive network of cameras and drones, stating this would ensure both police and citizens don’t break the law.
Ellison outlined a scenario where AI models would analyze footage from security cameras, police body cams, doorbell cameras, and vehicle dash cams.
“Citizens will be on their best behavior because we are constantly recording and reporting everything that’s going on,” Ellison said, describing what he sees as the benefits from automated oversight from AI and automated alerts for when crime takes place. “We’re going to have supervision,” he continued. “Every police officer is going to be supervised at all times, and if there’s a problem, AI will report the problem and report it to the appropriate person.”
Ellison’s vision bears more than a passing resemblance to the cautionary world portrayed in George Orwell’s prescient novel 1984. In Orwell’s fiction, the totalitarian government of Oceania uses ubiquitous “telescreens” to monitor citizens constantly, creating a society where privacy no longer exists and independent thought becomes nearly impossible.
But Orwell’s famous phrase “Big Brother is watching you” would take on new meaning in Ellison’s tech-driven scenario, where AI systems, rather than human watchers, would serve as the ever-vigilant eyes of authority. Once considered a sci-fi trope, automated systems are already becoming a reality: Similar automated CCTV surveillance systems have already been trialed in London Underground and at the 2024 Olympics.
China has been using automated systems (including AI) to surveil its citizens for years. In 2022, Reuters reported that Chinese firms had developed AI software to sort data collected on residents using a network of surveillance cameras deployed across cities and rural areas as part of China’s “sharp eyes” campaign from 2015 to 2020. This “one person, one file” technology reportedly organizes collected data on individual Chinese citizens, leading to what The Economic Times called a “road to digital totalitarianism.” (Emphasis mine)
The U.S. Tech Force will give rise to an immortal dictator in the person of Donald Trump — a man capable of destroying liberty via fascism and a surveillance state.
While the scientific community has a lot to say about the world-altering impact of artificial intelligence on every aspect of our lives, little has been said about its growing role in government and its destructive effect on our liberty and the rise of fascism, especially “the core democratic principles of privacy, autonomy, equality, the political process, and the rule of law.”
Trump has been quick to avail government of AI technology, but he has done little to nothing to ensure that the rights of the American people are protected. In fact, Trump’s AI ambitions have been marching on without any guardrails for transparency, accountability and adherence to the rule of law when it comes to the government’s use of the technology.
How do we protect liberty against the growing menace of fascism and the abuse by a technological sector working with the government? The ability to do so may already be out of our hands. Here a just two examples:
- In one of his first acts as president, Trump created the $2 trillion Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF), via executive order, to “help maximize the stewardship of our national wealth” and to “invest in great national endeavors for the benefit of all of the American people.” We have since learned that the SWF has the end goal of implementing Universal Basic Income in response to massive job displacement due to AI advancements.
- Earlier this month, Donald Trump and the Deep State he claims to be dismantling turbocharged the surveillance state by equipping the FBI with AI surveillance drones with facial recognition and other spying technology.
Whatever you choose to call Trump 2.0 — the police state, the Deep State, the surveillance state, the authoritarian state — the U.S. Tech Force will likely be the future face of government, creating an America where liberty dies and fascism lives unless we rein him in . . . NOW!
