Guess who’s ready to trade DACA amnesty for a border wall

Join me, if you will, as we embark on a short journey six years into the past.

In January, 2013, America was introduced to the “Gang of Eight,” a group of four Democrats and four Republicans in the US Senate, brought together for a single purpose: creating a plan to grant amnesty and an eventual pathway to citizenship for millions of so-called DREAMers, aka illegal aliens.

Sure, the gang led by Lindsey Graham claimed they were working on immigration reform and border security. But as pro-amnesty gang member Marco Rubio said at the time, Congress needed to “address the reality” of illegal immigration.

Though the 2013 version was eventually disbanded, in 2016, Graham introduced the idea of putting the Gang of Eight Band back together.

“I’ll tell you what I’m going to do in 2017. I’m going to take the Gang of Eight bill out, dust it off, and ask anybody and everybody who wants to work with me to make it better to do so.”

While his plans were delayed until 2018, Graham succeeded in finding a few new faces to join the band, including Trump’s son-in-law and advisor, Jared Kushner. And it looks like this new band will be picking up right where the old band left off.

During a meeting with band members on Wednesday, Kushner — a Democrat who loves Obama’s DACA order — told Senators in attendance that Trump will sign any amnesty deal as long as it includes border security funding. Considering the fact that Trump is also a Democrat who loves DACA, I think we can conclude that such a deal is very likely to become a reality.

How likely?

When Trump issued his Rescind-In-Name-Only order reversing DACA in 2017, he structured it in a way that allowed the Obama-era law to stay in effect indefinitely, a fact verified at the time by a senior member of the White House staff.

One year ago, Trump called a proposed DACA fix supported by Jeb Bush a “bill of love” that he would willingly sign in exchange for a border wall … or as we now know, a reasonable facsimile thereof.

And just weeks before the Democrats took back the House in the midterms, Trump and Graham both stated that they would work with Democrats on a deal where DACA would be saved in exchange for wall funding . . . WITHOUT CONDITIONS . . . during the lame duck session.

Do you remember when Trump had this to say about repealing DACA and building a “big, beautiful wall?”

Good times. Good times.
