Dems want DREAMers to work in Congress and so does the GOP

Led by California Senator and potential 2020 Democrat nominee for president Kamala Harris, Democrats have introduced the American Dream Employment Act, legislation that would make so-called DREAMers — aka illegal aliens — eligible to work as staffers and interns in Congress.

“The giant sign outside my office says, ‘DREAMers Welcome Here’ because we know and value the contributions that these young people have made to their communities.

“Government works best when it reflects the people it represents.”

Personally, I’m of the same mind as Henry David Thoreau when he said, “That government is best which governs least” or “which governs not at all.” Of course, this would require the people who elected it to fulfil their duties and obligations as citizens, so the likelihood of seeing such a government in today’s socialism-friendly America isn’t really all that great. But I digress.

It’s not all that surprising to see Democrats pushing extreme immigration policies like the American Dream Employment Act, nor is it surprising to see Republicans oppose it as they did with past versions of the bill in 2016 and 2017.

What is surprising, however, and just plain sad, is how easily Trumpservatives continue to fall for the lie that Trump and the GOP will fix the immigration problem. In reality, they want the same thing the Democrats want when it comes to amnesty for DREAMers and making DACA permanent.

Trump ran in 2016 on a platform that included a promise to rescind Obama’s DACA executive order, a promise he promised he kept in September 2017. In reality, he rescinded it in name only and gave Congress six months to make it permanent, a goal confirmed by Trump at the time.

Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders said at the time that Trump has always considered amnesty for DREAMers a top priority, and he has offered it to Democrats on many occasions since then in exchange for border wall funding — most recently this past January during the government shutdown.

In Congress, the Gang of Eight — originally formed in 2013 to create a plan granting amnesty and citizenship to millions of DREAMers — grew to become a Gang of Twenty, and together with Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, they’ve been working on ways to “secure the border” in exchange for legalizing DREAMers.

Last week, I wrote an article about how Trump and the GOP are recycling the lies they told us in 2016 in a vain attempt to win in 2020, so it’s no surprise to see them add fixing the immigration problem to the list. But in the end, Trump’s “big heart” promise to “take care of everybody” in the country illegally by giving them amnesty and citizenship is the real agenda.
