When Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy retired earlier this year, it was perfect timing for Trump and the GOP as they looked for political distractions to shift voter attention away from two years of ineptitude and broken promises ahead of the 2018 election.
But Kennedy’s retirement wasn’t enough on its own. What the GOP really needed was a manufactured crisis surrounding Kennedy’s replacement, and with help from the Democrats, they got their wish with the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh. Thanks to the Brett Kavanaugh circus they were able to create, Trump and the GOP Clown Show succeeded in distracting voters even though it failed to save them from the Blue Tsunami.
I opposed Brett Kavanaugh from the beginning for many reasons:
- His nomination was probably part of a secret deal between Trump and Kennedy
- He believes that a sitting U.S. President is above the law (I believe this is why Trump nominated him)
- He has a track record of rulings unfavorable to the Fourth Amendment
As if these reasons weren’t enough, Kavanaugh testified during his confirmation hearing that he considered Roe v. Wade “settled Supreme Court precedent” that has been “reaffirmed many times.”
Kavanaugh’s nomination was contrary to Trump’s promise to appoint “strict constructionists” who would defend life. More disappointing than this betrayal, however, was watching so-called evangelicals give Trump their undying worship by supporting Kavanaugh’s nomination despite his checkered past.
Concerns about Kavanaugh’s support of a woman’s “right” to murder her unborn child were realized yesterday when he joined the Court’s liberal justices and Chief Justice John Roberts — but I repeat myself — to reject appeals by Louisiana and Kansas seeking to end public funding of Planned Parenthood through the Medicaid program.
By rejecting the appeal, the Court left intact lower court rulings that prevented Louisiana and Kansas from defunding the baby butchers.
When I shared the news of this betrayal on social media, I heard from an individual who incorrectly defended the decision by saying that it only affected the non-abortion services provided by Planned Parenthood. Why was he wrong? Because money is fungible.
Any money Planned Parenthood receives frees up funds to murder unborn babies.
Justice Clarence Thomas spelled out in his dissent the motivation behind this betrayal when he essentially called his fellow jurists cowards who lacked the courage to fulfill their constitutional responsibility and stand up to Planned Parenthood.
“What explains the Court’s refusal to do its job here? I suspect it has something to do with the fact that some of the respondents in the case are named ‘Planned Parenthood.’”
Justice Thomas is correct, but I’ll take it a few steps further.
This decision proves that Trump lied about appointing strict constructionist pro-life judges, that cheap-grace evangelicals care more about a seat at Trump’s table than they do the unborn, and that Kavanaugh is the fraud we knew he was all along.
