Earlier this week, Joe Biden was asked if he had the authority to override state governments and mandate universal masking of children in response to coronavirus, and his answer (based on his own words) sounded for all the world like that of a dictator prepared to do as he pleases . . . Constitution be damned! (via Charles C. Cook at National Review)

Asked whether he possesses the authority to impose a national mask mandate on every school in the nation, President Joe Biden offered up a truly chilling answer. “I don’t believe that I do thus far,” he said, speaking from the East Room of the White House. “We’re checking that.”

“Checking.” “Thus far.” We’ve seen this movie before.

Cook is 100% correct! We have seen this movie before. In fact, it was just last week.

That’s when, after several days of browbeating by far-left members of the Democrat Party, Joe Biden abandoned his responsibility to protect and defend the Constitution to issue a new eviction moratorium despite his open admission that the order was unconstitutional and would likely be rejected by the courts.

“The bulk of the constitutional scholars say it’s not likely to pass constitutional muster,” Biden said during his press conference announcing the new eviction moratorium before adding, “By the time it gets litigated, it will probably give [renters] some additional time.”

I’ve mentioned in the past how this kind of unconstitutional executive action is something Joe Biden is very familiar with, having spent eight years under the tutelage of Barack Obama.

Early in 2014, Obama informed America that he wouldn’t wait for Congress to create the legislation he wanted. Instead, he ignored the Constitution by issuing decrees (i.e. executive orders) via his “pen and phone” despite his commitment as a candidate in 2007 to roll back such executive overreach.

“We’re not just going to be waiting for legislation in order to make sure that we’re providing Americans the kind of help they need. I’ve got a pen and I’ve got a phone.”

In an attack obviously directed at governors who disagree with the idea of mask mandates, Biden attempted to justify his attempt to usurp the Constitution and do as he pleases.

“When I suggest that people, in zones where there is a high risk, wear the masks like you all are doing, I’m told that government should get out of the way and not do that, they don’t have the authority to do that. And I find it interesting that some of the very people who are saying that, who hold government positions, are people who are threatening that if a school teacher asks a student if they’ve been vaccinated, or if a principal says that ‘everyone in my school should wear a mask,’ or the school board votes for it, that governor will nullify that.

“That governor has the authority to say you can’t do that. I find that totally counter-intuitive and quite frankly, disingenuous.”

I guess since the Founding Fathers forgot to put a “disingenuous” clause in the Constitution giving the president power to overrule governors, Joe Biden figures he can don his dictator cap and spread a little tyranny whenever the mood hits him.

Trumpists have been quick to attack Biden for his dictator-inspired approach to all things COVID, but I think it’s important to remember that from coronavirus to the Bill of Rights, Trump’s pen and phone left Obama’s in the dust. Not only did he issue more executive orders in four years than Obama, Trump is the one responsible for creating the coronavirus eviction moratorium that Biden just extended, having issued it in September 2020.

In other words, coronavirus tyranny would still be a thing even if Donald Trump was still president.

Putting aside Biden’s obvious shredding of the Constitution and the spiritual, physical, and psychological destruction of our children through mask mandates for a moment, when coronavirus hysteria reared it’s head early last year, I expressed the concerns held by many conservatives that a government long desirous of turning America into a tyrannical, socialist state could use the so-called pandemic to permanently alter, if not outright eliminate, liberty.

Sadly for constitutional conservatives and other lovers of liberty, all signs point to the reality that tyranny and the end of liberty is much closer than we realize. We need look no further than Dictator Biden and his soon-to-be announced plan to abuse America’s children by issuing a universal mask mandate.
