Will Baltimore riots usher in Obama’s Gestapo?

Newsweek Police StateIn a radio interview a few days ago, I was asked by the host to share my feelings about the happenings in Baltimore. Of course, I expressed my concerns over the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody. I expressed how we needed to give the system time to investigate what happened and, if appropriate, punish those responsible.

However, I also shared my concern that this situation could be used as another excuse by Obama, following Ferguson, MO., to nationalize local law enforcement. It would appear that my concerns might have some merit.

Did you know that Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake was a key player in the Barack Obama and Eric Holder plan to federalize the nation’s police force? She served as one of three mayors on Obama’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing which advocates for federal control of law enforcement in exchange for government funds.

This could explain her “stand down” order when the rioting got out of control. Whether intentional or not, that action could have given her the leverage she needed to use the chaos as an opportunity to expand Obama’s control over local law enforcement and receive additional funds.

Back in March I wrote about how the DOJ plan, the militarization of police departments across the nation, the calls by Democrats for a national police czar, and Obama’s 2008 promise to equip and fund America’s civilian forces at military levels. In that piece, I offered the idea that all Obama would need is the right situation to get his Gestapo under way.

It looks like Baltimore just might fit the bill.

UPDATE: While I was preparing this article, Al Sharpton held a news conference in Baltimore announcing his intention to lead a march on Washington calling for the Justice Department to take over policing. It’s coming folks!
