Wasted away again in Obamaville

ObamavilleIt’s time for all Americans to come face-to-face with a truth that all but the woefully ignorant and the intentionally ignorant are, at least to some degree, aware of. The United States of America has become “Barack’s World”, and the rest of us are just living in it. The President of the United States is about one thing and one thing only – bringing about the kind of “change(s)” HE feels this nation needs. And if you, I, the Tea Partiers, the Democrats, the Israelis, opinion polls, the Supreme Court or anybody else doesn’t like it… tough!

Sadly, in 2008 when he ran on the campaign slogan of “Hope and Change” far too many Americans never asked the obvious questions; what do we need to change, why do we need to change it, and what do we change to? You can’t just “change.” Change implies becoming something else – what do we need to become? Many, seeing the opportunity to make history, never asked these questions let alone worried about the answers. We’re now finding out. This President is motivated not by a desire to represent the people but by ideology and a drive to remake America into something more closely resembling his ideals of a Utopian society. We’ve seen it time and time again.

At no point did any public opinion poll ever place a majority of Americans in favor of the Affordable Care Act. Not during its (not so) ‘open and transparent’ drafting, not during congressional votes and not now, 5 years post. The majority has always been opposed to it. Yet the President signed it into law anyway. Why? Because he believes it’s what America needs, not because he saw it’s what Americans wanted.

President Obama dodged the bullet of having to veto the Keystone XL pipeline project—Senate Democrats killed the bill one vote short of passage last year—however the White House made clear the bill was headed to Presidential veto should it make it to the Oval Office. Polls consistently show the American people in favor of building the pipeline by margins as wide as 2-to-1. When the people want it and this President doesn’t the will of the one overrides the will of the 310 million.

Immigration? Border security? Amnesty? As was the case with the ACA, no public opinion poll places a majority of Americans in any voter bloc (including Latinos) in favor of an open borders policy or of granting citizenship-via-amnesty to those currently in our nation illegally. Americans in overwhelming numbers think that our President and elected officials should put the needs, desires and interests of U.S. citizens ahead of those who are not citizens.

No group in America benefits by granting amnesty—via executive action or any other way—to millions of people. Indeed quite the opposite is true. One need look no further than California to see the effect on tax-paying citizens of rolling out the red carpet to illegals. According to Los Angeles County itself, about “…$650 million in welfare benefits were distributed to illegal alien parents in 2013. $54 million in welfare payments are issued each month. When you add the $550 million for public safety and nearly $500 million for healthcare, the total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers exceeds $1.6 billion dollars a year. These costs do not even include the hundreds of millions of dollars spent annually for education.” $54 million each month! And California is already broke!

2012 was the last time the President simply “changed” our immigration laws. In his first term he couldn’t get the “Dream Act” through congress as the American people melted down their representative’s phone lines and email boxes screaming, “Hell no!!” to the legislation. So in his typical demeanor of “If congress won’t give me exactly what I want you’re uncooperative obstructionists” the President took it upon himself to write an executive action granting amnesty to an estimated 800,000 children and young people. That was June of 2012 and resulted in what could be called nothing less than a full-on humanitarian crisis of children flooding over our southern border. The influx of these tens and tens of thousands of children has cost the American taxpayer untold billions of dollars.

So intent is this President about bringing the “change” he feels this nation needs that he is wholly and completely willing to roll his entire political party beneath the bus. In response to the historic beat down Democrats took at the polls last November, the President blamed the loss on “poor turnout” and basically said he intends to ignore the message sent by the American people and forge ahead with his agenda. Pundits everywhere accused the President of being tone-deaf, rightly claiming that the American people spoke—loudly—and yet the President did not hear.

Wrong. He heard, he simply doesn’t care. If forcing through his agenda means that come 2016 even more Democrat seats in congress fall and more Democrat governor’s mansions flip Republican, so be it! It’s a price he is willing to pay in order to re-mold America into Obamaville. He has no loyalty nor sense of responsibility to the party players who faithfully carried his water all the way to the top of the mountain. His acting in defiance of the public will could well result in 60+ Republican seats in the Senate and over 250 in the House following the 2016 elections. And to his fellow Democrats facing re-election amidst the public anger he’s creating, Obama is saying “Good luck with that.”

Time and again Obama acts in defiance of the will of the people, in defiance of the people’s elected representatives, in defiance of the U.S. constitution. Why? Because what the President wants is all that matters. The fact that a vast majority of those whom he has been elected to represent do not want it is completely moot. This is Obama’s world, and we’re just here living in it. Oh.
And paying all the bills.
