University Thought Police deem “housewife” and “mankind” offensive speech

Universities in America used to be places where the free and open exchange of ideas—even contradictory ideas—could be experienced by students. Today, however, not so much. One need look no further than last month’s Berkeley riots to understand how these institutions of so-called higher learning have become nothing more than indoctrination centers of political correctness and intolerance. An ironic fact when you consider how these bastions of liberalism where snowflakes go to hide actually claim to practice tolerance as they riot against those they don’t agree with.

Such indoctrination used to be taboo, but it’s increasingly becoming the modus operandi for causes near and dear to leftist radicals, such as the LGBT agenda and feminism. A recent example comes to us from this little tidbit via Cardiff Metropolitan University in Wales.

In the CMU, revised code of practice for students, a list of thirty-four words and phrases to be avoided have been itemized in order to prevent a student’s “cultural background” to influence their ability to “embrace cultural diversity.” That’s right! Much like showing tolerance by being intolerant, students are required to abandon their culture in order to embrace culture.

You can’t make this stuff up, folks.

So, what are some of these culturally insensitive words? I hope you’re ready, and that you won’t be offended. And for safety’s sake, you should probably be sitting down. A few examples include:

  • Homosexual
  • Heterosexual
  • Housewife
  • Mankind
  • Forefathers
  • Sportsmanship
  • And perhaps the most offensive, Miss or Mrs.

To get an idea of where they’re coming from, the guide provides CMU’s rationale for selecting these words, along with some suggested replacements. For example: “homosexual” and “heterosexual” are found to be “laden with the values of a previous time,” and they should be replaced with “same sex” and “other sex” relationships instead.

It should be noted that while this university is in the UK, it serves as a warning to universities in the US. The recent riots in Berkeley were the results of students protesting Milo Yiannopulous because his actions were considered a violation of UC Berkeley’s code of conduct concerning hate speech. Interestingly, they appeared to have no problem with his advocacy of pedophilia.

Over ninety percent of the universities in the United Kingdom restrict free speech on campus, and such restrictions are growing in America. But that’s what you get when you replace free speech with Orwellian Thought Police.
