Donald Trump: The “in-name-only” president

For years the words “in-name-only” have been synonymous with the lying liars who make up the Republican party. Routinely promising one thing to get your money and your vote, but then doing the opposite once elected, these charlatans have earned the title of RINO–Republican-In-Name-Only. But ever since the 2016 election, Donald Trump and his Washington-establishment buddies keep finding new ways to use the in-name-only moniker.

For example, Trump and the Republicans attempted to pass a piece of legislation that allegedly repealed Obamacare. Instead, Trumpcare would have kept most of Obamacare in effect, making the legislative effort nothing more than a Repeal-In-Name-Only.

Donald Trump ran on the promise to fix immigration by building a great big beautiful wall on our southern border and repealing Obama’s unconstitutional executive order known as DACA. Following his decision to team up with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to find a way to grant amnesty to over 1 million so-called DREAMers and give them a pathway to citizenship, Trump’s recent order to rescind DACA was Rescind-In-Name-Only. Additionally, by giving control of the immigration issue to the Democrats, Trump relinquished the bully pulpit, making Schumer the defacto president and Trump a PINO–President-In-Name-Only.

Do you remember when Trump made his announcement in June about withdrawing America from the Paris Climate Agreement? At the time, I suggested that this was another in-name-only moment for the NY liberal based on his own words:

“…the United States will withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord, but begin negotiations to re-enter that Paris Accord…”

I took a lot of heat from some of my listeners and readers for coming to this conclusion. Unfortunately for these critics, a Wall Street Journal story this past weekend confirmed my suspicions. According to the Journal, Trump won’t be pulling out of the Paris climate deal but will instead look to re-negotiate the agreement. White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee-Sanders attempted to do damage control by denying the report, but she actually confirmed it by stating that the US was withdrawing unless the terms are changed (emphasis mine).

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster made similar statements on the Sunday morning talk shows:

“The president said he is open to finding those conditions where we can remain engaged with others on what we all agree is still a challenging issue.” – Rex Tillerson on CBS’s Face the Nation

“He left the door open to re-entering at some later time if there can be a better deal for the United States.” H.R. McMaster on ABC’s This Week

The bottom line is that Trump is going to work on re-entering the global warming agreement.

In a piece I wrote last week about how Paul Ryan and Donald Trump are putting America on the path to poorness, I redefined what GOP stands for. No longer will those letters stand for the Grand Old Party. From now on it will stand for the Gang Of Phonies—a perfect description for a party that does everything “in name only.”
