TPP: Pass it to see what’s in it? Here we go again!

Trade Secrets

I’ve been writing a lot recently about how the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), and the Fast Track Authority (TPA) it would give Obama, is bad news for liberty and freedom.

For instance, it was just yesterday that I shared how Obama admitted in an interview with NPR’s Marketplace that the TPP would give him authority to put America under United Nations control in order to force their radical “fix” for global warming. And it was earlier this year when I documented how the TPP could be used by Obama to enforce the new gun control measures he wanted when he signed–but couldn’t get approved in the Senate–the UN Arms Trade Treaty.

Apparently, these concerns are just the tip of the iceberg.

In a letter just made public by Senator Jeff Sessions, the junior Senator from Alabama is demanding that the administration explain why Obamatrade–as it is now being called–has been so secretive:

“On May 6th of this year, I sent you a letter regarding your request for Congress to grant you fast-track executive authority,” in a letter provided to Breitbart News. “Under fast-track, Congress transfers its authority to the executive and agrees to give up several of its most basic powers.”

“These concessions include: the power to write legislation, the power to amend legislation, the power to fully consider legislation on the floor, the power to keep debate open until Senate cloture is invoked, and the constitutional requirement that treaties receive a two-thirds vote.”

“The latter is especially important since, having been to the closed room to review the secret text of the Trans-Pacific Partnership, it is clear it more closely resembles a treaty than a trade deal . . . ” (emphasis mine)

Perhaps more troubling than the Jason Bourne nature of an actual “closed room” and “secret text” is something that is clearly spelled out, but not clearly understood: The Trans-Pacific Partnership Commission. Sessions is demanding clarification on this unknown agency:

“I asked that you make public the section of the TPP that creates a new transnational governance structure known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership Commission. The details of this new governance commission are extremely broad and have the hallmarks of a nascent (emerging) European Union, with many similarities.”

But wait! There’s more!

The TPP also includes language that gives the TPP Commission eternal life, allowing them to change the rules any time they need to in order to keep their unlimited power:

“Reviewing the secret text, plus the secret guidance document that accompanies it,” says Sessions, “reveals that this new transnational commission–chartered with a “Living Agreement” clause–would have the authority to amend the agreement after its adoption, to add new members, and to issue regulations impacting labor, immigration, environmental, and commercial policy. Under this new commission, the Sultan of Brunei would have an equal vote to that of the United States.”

During the days leading up to passing Obamacare, Nancy Pelosi famously said Congress needed to “pass it to see what’s in it.” They passed it, and Obamacare has destroyed one-fifth of the U.S. economy as it systematically dismantled the healthcare system.

Now Obama and the McConnell-led RINOs in Washington are advocating the same approach with Obamatrade, and if they succeed, they won’t just be destroying a portion of the American economy…

…they’ll be destroying America herself!
