The Legal Basis for a Moral Constitution

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” – John Adams

If you’ve been paying attention to the primaries, you no doubt have heard how many of the candidates, in both parties, have made a point of letting the voters know about their religious beliefs; or to be more specific, their personal faith in God. In fact, it has been so much a part of the campaign so far that it has prompted many of the political pundits to remind Americans that we are voting for a Commander-in-Chief, not a “Pastor-in-Chief.”

Which begs the question that has been debated for decades: “does religion have a place in government?” Well, thanks to a new book by Jenna L. Ellis, Esq., The Legal Basis for a Moral Constitution, we can answer that question with a definitive “YES!”

Readers of this book will gain a better understanding of how the American system of self-government is built on the understanding that we are creations of God, and only by living morally can we be truly free. Sadly, as America has continued her slow-but-steady decline from this fact, we continue to be denied many of our constitutional rights.

Using her love and appreciation of the Constitution, along with her extensive understanding of the law, Jenna shows us how every law is based on someone’s “morality.” And beginning with the founding documents of our great country, she shows us how it was the Judeo-Christian morality of our Founding Fathers that established America, and how they intended to have those values preserve this great experiment.

Jenna also takes us through many of the most important Supreme Court decisions of the past generation—from the Roe v. Wade legalizing abortion to the Obergefell v. Hodges legalizing same-sex marriage—as evidence of how morality based on God has been replaced with a series of social contracts based on government’s interpretation of the law.

As someone who is always seeking to learn more about the Constitution, I’ve read many books on the topic, and many of them have had a “textbook” feel to them that made it difficult, if not boring, to read. That’s not the case with this book as Jenna does an excellent job of making her point without sounding like she’s talking over your head.

Jenna concludes her book with a call to action, challenging us to reclaim the moral basis of U.S. Constitutional Interpretation and Law, even inviting the reader to consider the need for an Article V Convention of the States to reclaim the rights and privileges granted under the Constitution.

America has lost its way due to the blatant disregard given the Constitution by those in power. It’s time to return to the morality that made America possible, I heartily recommend The Legal Basis for a Moral Constitution as an excellent starting point to make it happen.
