The FCC, the Washington Redskins, and Joseph Goebbels

quote

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking. There goes the Strident Conservative with another Hitler comparison. Well, check out this story from Newsmax.com about the Washington Redskins and see if you don’t come to the same conclusion I have:

The Federal Communications Commission has been asked to punish a broadcaster for indecency for using the name of the Washington NFL team, the Redskins, and FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler is leaning in that direction.

Reuters reported that the FCC, which enforces broadcast indecency violations, has received a petition from legal activist John Banzhaf III, asking that regulators strip local radio station WWXX-FM of its broadcasting license when it comes up for renewal for using the name “Redskins.”

Banzhaf says the word is racist, derogatory, profane and hateful, making its use “akin to broadcasting obscenity.”

“We’ll be looking at that petition, we will be dealing with that issue on the merits and we’ll be responding accordingly,” FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler told reporters.

“There are a lot of names and descriptions that were used over time that are inappropriate today.

When I read this story and the quote above attributed to Adolph Hitler’s Minister of Propaganda, Joseph Goebbels, the similarities look pretty clear to me.

The looney-left has been trying to get the Washington REDSKINS to change their name due the “racially offensive” nature of the term. Yet, the origin of the team name was actually done to honor a Native-American:

In 1932, the NFL team moved to the historic Fenway Park and were left under the leadership of George Preston Marshall. The very next year, Marshall changed the name to “Redskins” to honor then-coach Lone Star Dietz, an American Sioux.

Liberals and Democrats —was that redundant?—in Washington, including the Liberal-in-Chief and his people in the Patent Office, have tried a myriad of things to force owner Dan Snyder to change the team name; this despite the fact that Native American schools use it:

Students at primarily Native American schools all across America wear the name with pride, and say now they’re afraid they might lose the name. At Kingston Oklahoma high school, which is 58 percent Native American, the name ‘Redskins’ has been worn by its students for 104 years.  In fact, ‘Redskins’ was a name first used by Native Americans.”

With all past efforts going nowhere, FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler is apparently prepared to wield the mighty iron fist of the totalitarian administration he works for against private enterprise businesses who refuse to yield to the will of der Fuehrer…

…just like Joseph Goebbels.

By the way, we have documented previous Goebbels-like behavior by the FCC to silence those they don’t agree with. We have also shown how it’s not unique to the Democrats and the Obama administration, but has been on display in the Republican ranks as well, most notably, Lindsey Graham.
