“Tear Down This Wall” – 25 Years Later

25 years ago today, President Ronald Reagan made one of the greatest speeches concerning human liberty ever made at the Brandenburg Gate in what was then West Berlin, Germany. Here’s a snippet:

You can hear the whole speech here.

Reagan believed in American Exceptionalism and knew in his heart that the foundation of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness provided the only hope for the world. He also never cowered to the greatest threat to that hope at the time, the former Soviet Union.

So, where is America 25 years later?

Well, we now have a community organizer in the White House who has never believed in American Exceptionalism and spent the first few years of his Presidency on a world apology tour where he “repented” for American greatness.

And with the former Soviet Union finding new life under the virtual dictatorship of Vladimir Putin, Obama has abdicated American strength and plans to essentially disarm America in a second term:

In April, 2009, in one of the most notable speeches of his Presidency, he said, in Prague, “I state clearly and with conviction America’s commitment to seek the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons.” He conceded that the goal might not be achieved in his lifetime but promised to take “concrete steps,” including a new treaty with Russia to reduce nuclear weapons and ratification of the 1996 Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty.

Gee, I didn’t realize that the world lived in total peace prior to 1945. And how does the the apologist-in-chief gives us this when it comes to dealing with the re-emerging Soviet threat?

Transcript from ABC News:

President Obama: On all these issues, but particularly missile defense, this, this can be solved but it’s important for him to give me space.

President Medvedev: Yeah, I understand. I understand your message about space. Space for you…

President Obama: This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.

President Medvedev: I understand. I will transmit this information to Vladimir.

Ronald Reagan – “Tear down this wall.”

Barack Obama – “After my election, I have more flexibility (regarding missile defense).”

That’s where we are. . .  25 years later.
