Trump Tax Plan: Pros and Cons

October 7, 2015
Trump tax plan

Donald Trump has shaken up today’s craven political establishment like Tom Paine shook up the Tories of colonial America. He has irreverently proposed genuine solutions to the invasion of “illegals.” He has attacked the poltroons of Washington and the talking heads of the media. He speaks rudely and boldly. The question now is, has he also been daring enough to put forth a bold tax reform plan? The answer is yes and no. Trump’s tax plan has numerous great features, but it also has one very bad feature. Let’s examine the good points first, and then tackle the bad aspect…

Alice in Washington Wonderland

October 1, 2015
Liberty - It begins with you

Government bureaucracies overwhelm our society today like locusts swarming over amber fields. Oppressive taxes stultify our waking hours from teen to twilight years. And the odorous rot of corruption eats away at even the honorable pillars of Washington as drab Machiavellians extend the tentacles of government everywhere. Yet despite such unbearable intrusiveness, our establishment pundits remain blithely impervious to the outrage of it all. We are told by prominent foundation scholars that our nation is headed toward an “unlimited future of economic prosperity and social justice in a new world order of triumphant Americanism.” We are informed by Democratic savants…

GOP Candidates: Dazed and Confused

September 18, 2015
2016 election banner

Enormous gloom descended upon this writer as the latest round of GOP debates finished up. I realized there will be no rational patriot defender of America running for President in 2016. The Democratic side of things offers only semi-socialists; no hope for patriotism and freedom there. But surely, I thought, someone with a consistent grasp of patriotic freedom will show up among the GOP aspirants for the White House. Not to be. There is nothing but debilitating confusion over fundamental principles from all comers. Three of the four important issues facing our country were discussed. Immigration, tax policy, and foreign…

Obama laughs on AF1

A few weeks ago I shared with you how Obama was making plans to raise taxes via executive action in order to bypass Congress and avoid that pesky Constitution. Well, the Republicans have finally responded. In a letter to Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Paul Ryan called on Obama to work with Congress. The two Republicans warned that unilateral action on taxes would be “a mistake, both constitutionally and politically.” Both constitutionally AND politically? Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the “constitutionally” part of the equation enough? I really don’t care about…

King Obama’s next move? Raising taxes without Congress

March 3, 2015
Obama king

Article 1 – Section 8 of the Constitution states that the power to lay and collect taxes lies with the Congress. So, guess what Obama is thinking about doing. If you said raise taxes via executive action, you’d be right. At least that’s the word from White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest, who confirmed Monday that Obama is “very interested” in the idea of raising taxes through unilateral executive action. The topic was brought up by a reporter after Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT)—a self-avowed socialist—wrote a letter calling on Obama to raise over $100 billion through I.R.S. executive actions and bypassing…
