Speak out against tyranny

It was just a few days ago that I wrote about the tyranny Americans now live under from the judicial, executive, and legislative branches of the federal government. Now comes word of more tyrannical behavior by the government from Houston, TX. and the pro-homosexual city council and mayor. In a clear case of government bullying, the city of Houston has issued subpoenas to a group of pastors requesting any sermons they’ve written that cover the subject of homosexuality, gender identity, or mention of Annise Parker, the city’s first openly lesbian mayor. The subpoenas came after pastors protested against Houston’s new non-discrimination ordinance…

Tyranny: The new normal

Last week, the government released employment data that showed a drop in unemployment even though the economy remained weak and the country reached a record low labor participation rate. As the left-wing grapples with this disparity between statistics and reality, they have come to adopt an interesting term to describe this failure. They call it the new norm, which has become a way to provide cover for their failed policies while making it sound like it’s not their fault. The world watched and waited to learn the fate of Scotland following its vote on the referendum for independence. For many other regions within the U.K., including Wales and Northern Ireland; within Europe, including Spain’s Catalonia and Belgium’s Flanders; and states within the U.S., including Vermont, Texas and Alaska; Scotland’s vote energized and inspired separatists’ movements—even though they were disappointed with the outcome. While Scotland voted “No,” and chose to remain in the United Kingdom, it made enough noise and caused enough concern in London, that, in effect, it won anyway. When the race appeared to be close, the Wall…

Obama, the FCC, and crony socialism

By: Bartlett Cleland (Guest Commentary) If there was any one issue that candidate Barack Obama embraced and promised to pursue if he became president it was the promise of an open and transparent government. The country expressed its support of this promise by a wide margin. But a recent Wall Street Journal article, “FCC Encourages Media Companies to Provide Confidential Complaints on Time Warner Cable Purchase”, uncovers how far this Administration and the FCC have drifted from that promise. The rent seekers have come running. In economics, “rent seeking” occurs when companies leverage government agencies to grab a portion of…
