Senators demand immigration histories of San Bernardino attackers

San Bernardino attackerEarlier this week I wrote about John Boehner 2.0 (a.k.a. Paul Ryan) and his plan to pursue passage of the omnibus bill on December 11th which, when passed, will fully fund Obama’s refugee resettlement program. In the days following that post, we received the news of a mass murder in Southern California.

How are these two events related? A letter from Senators Jeff Sessions (R-AL) and Ted Cruz (R-TX) to the Obama administration calling for a full disclosure of the immigration histories of Syed Farook and Tashfeen Malik, the alleged San Bernardino, CA. attackers, provides the answer.

“The recruitment of terrorists in the U.S. is not limited to adult migrants, but to their young children and to their U.S.-born children, which is why family immigration history is necessary to understand the nature of the threat.”

The letter was sent to Attorney General Loretta Lynch, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, and Secretary of State John Kerry, and it stressed Congress’ need for this information in order to “act as responsible stewards of America immigration policy.” According to Sessions and Cruz, the omnibus “would set the U.S. on an autopilot path to approve green cards, asylee and refugee status to approximately 170,000 migrants from Muslim countries during the next fiscal year.”

According to reports, Farook was a U.S. citizen whose parents are from Pakistan. In 2013 he reportedly brought Malik (a Pakistani) back to the U.S. with him from Saudi Arabia on a “fiancee” visa. Malik eventually became a lawful permanent resident.

This request by Sessions and Cruz isn’t a new one. Three-and-a-half months ago they requested the immigration histories of 72 individuals in the United States who were identified last year to have terrorism connections. In this follow-up request, the urgency of the information was restated:

“A response is not only long overdue, but urgent in light of a series of assaults, including: the heinous attacks in San Bernardino, CA., the earlier attacks on the military recruiting center in Chattanooga, the Boston Bombing, and Congress’ imminent consideration of government funding legislation that would include funding for myriad immigration programs that have allowed for these events to occur.”

As details of the California attacks were gradually released, the Pakistani origin of Farook and Malik didn’t go unnoticed by Sessions and Cruz as they noted that “Pakistan is the top recipient of U.S. green cards”:

“Further, according to CBS News, sources say that the two viewed ISIS propaganda online, and separate reports indicate that Farook was in touch with other individuals being investigated for terrorism.”

And they concluded:

“In our struggle against terrorism, we are dealing with an enemy that has shown it is not only capable of bypassing U.S. screening, but of recruiting and radicalizing Muslim migrants after their entry to the United States.”

It’s unlikely that Obama will comply with their request any time soon because he’s far too busy looking for ways to void the Second Amendment; a favorite pastime of the administration and his buddies on the left whenever tragedies like the California shootings take place.

But even that is a secondary concern.

The real issue is this: Obama’s refugee program will drastically increase the likelihood that terrorist attacks like the one in California will increase in frequency and intensity, and the RINOs in Washington masquerading as Conservatives—under the leadership of Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan—are too cowardly to use their constitutional powers to stop him!
