Orrin Hatch Enshrined In The G.O.P. Hall Of Shame

Orrin Hatch

Senator Orrin Hatch receives the news that he has been inducted to the G.O.P. Hall of Shame

Ever since the T.E.A. Party helped Republicans take back the House of Representatives in 2010—along with gaining a few seats in the Senate—Republican “leaders” in both houses of Congress, in classic “cutting off the nose to spite the face” behavior, have targeted them for elimination. These RINO WIMPS (Republicans In Name Only who are Washington Insiders Masquarading as Public Servants) have made it known that there will be no room for principled politicians in Washington, particularly when they upset the apple cart of the Republican establishment.

Enter Orrin Hatch. In a recent interview, he refused to endorse his fellow Senator from Utah, Mike Lee, for re-election in 2016, because Lee and other T.E.A. Party members need rehabilitated before they deserve his consideration. Which is confusing, when you consider that Hatch serves on the GOP re-election committee, and claims that he wants to protect every Republican running for office. However, the picture becomes much clearer when you look at a bit of recent history.

Orrin Hatch still holds a grudge for having to defend his nomination in the 2012 Republican primary, when he was challenged by 37-year-old former state Sen. Dan Liljenquist, the T.E.A. Party-supported candidate. In bit of irony, Hatch made the case in that primary that he should be re-elected so that he could “help repeal Obamacare.” You know, the same thing that he is criticizing Mike Lee for. But alas, convictions are negotiable with old guard Republicans looking to protect their “seat” (i.e. ass).

Hatch joins a growing chorus of Beltway Republicans—who are sounding more like Democrats every day—in attacking this new breed of Conservative.

G.O.P. Hall of Shame member John McCain has attacked Lee, Rand Paul and Ted Cruz from the Senate floor. He resorted to name-calling, even referring to them as “tea party hobbits“ when they had the audacity to question his great wisdom on “how business has been done in the Congress of the United States” during a 2011 budget battle.

Lindsey Graham was inducted to the Hall of Shame earlier this year for his vacillating positions on many Conservative issues, along with his willingness to join his BFF, John McCain, in attacking T.E.A. Party Republicans for standing on their convictions. Not coincidentally, he is facing several challengers in the upcoming primary for his job, while his approval ratings are plummeting.

Another one of Hatch’s buddies, Hall of Shame member and Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell—are you catching a theme here?—has come out in defense of the Republican status quo with his declaration of war against T.E.A. Party “tactics” when it comes to running the government. He too, is being primaried by Matt Bevin, who recently received the endorsement of the Senate Conservatives Fund.

Orrin Hatch ran for re-election last  year on a promise to stand up for Conservative values, particularly in the areas of Obamacare and illegal immigration. Like others before him, however, he is simply too ingrained in the Beltway to stand by those principles. He has quickly reverted to his insider ways, and he has now resorted to attacking anyone who threatens the status quo.

For being just another Washington insider who refuses to live by the principles he claimed to possess, along with his attacks on those who actually do possess them, we enshrine our latest inductee in to the Gutless On Principle Hall of Shame . . . Senator Orrin Hatch.
