Obamatrade surrenders U.S. sovereignty to international commission

Trade Secrets

Do you remember the top-secret “pass it to see what’s in it” handling of the Trans Pacific Partnership and the Trade Promotion Authority (a.k.a. Fast Track) legislation? Do you remember how Obama ridiculed Conservatives who objected to the secret nature of getting it passed?

Well, it turns out that things aren’t as bad as we originally thought… IT’S WORSE!

Obama on Thursday released the 5000+ page text of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). It revealed that the TPP agreement will undermine U.S. sovereignty be establishing a secret, totally unaccountable TransPacific Partnership Commission with world-changing regulatory powers of over 40% of the world’s economy; powers that will cut Congress completely out of the process.

But worse? The pact also essentially moves the U.S. economy out from under the constraints of the U.S. Constitution.

The TPP Commission will have the power to write rules concerning immigration, food, energy, medicine, the Internet, copyrights, patents and businesses with every member of the commission, including within U.S. borders.

Under Article 27 of the TPP agreement, the commission will be made up of officials appointed by each member country. It will have broad powers, not only for the “implementation or operation” of the agreement and interpreting the terms of the pact, but it will also have the authority to “amend or modify” the pact at will.

The commission will have the sole power to “establish rules of procedures for the conduct of its work,” but it will not be required to notify the public regarding when it meets, what is discussed when it meets, nor how it reaches its decisions.

Concerning its decision-making powers, the commission can refer matters to a staff working group that will be empowered to reach a final decision without input from, or concern for, any of the member countries — including the U.S.

In a bit of irony, a footnote to the agreement states that the government of Chile will only implement the commission’s decisions based on the Constitution of Chile. Yet there is no such stipulation for the U.S. Constitution or even Congress. Not surprising when you consider Obama’s disdain for those two things.

When the TPP was being pushed by the Obama administration back in June, Sen. Jeff Sessions wrote a letter to the Transformer-in-Chief, raising serious concerns about some of the unanswered questions concerning this commission.

Well, those questions appear to have been answered… and it’s not good!
