Obama’s DOJ gives IRS carte blanche to target conservative groups

IRS scandal

Several years after the discovery that Obama used the Internal Revenue Service to target conservative groups who had applied to receive 501c tax-exempt status, Loretta Lynch’s Department of Justice—a clear oxymoron in this case—has determined that there is no basis to bring criminal charges against the agency or the former director of the Exempt Organizations Unit, Lois Lerner.

In fact, the DOJ essentially exonerated Lerner for her obvious abuse of power, as we see in this excerpt from the official letter to lawmakers from Assistant Attorney General Peter Kadzik:

“The IRS mishandled the processing of tax-exempt applications in a manner that disproportionately impacted applicants affiliated with the T.E.A. Party and similar groups … However, ineffective management is not a crime.”

Actually, ineffective management can indeed be a crime if the result creates harm to an innocent party.

Kadzik further stated it found that IRS employees used “politically charged” keywords to select groups for review, but they found no evidence that they did so because of bias:

“What occurred is disquieting and may necessitate corrective action, but does not warrant criminal prosecution.”

Did you get that? Even their imaginary conclusion about the situation may or may not be addressed.

Of course, many Republicans are upset about these events, which won’t amount to a hill of beans since the GOP leadership in Congress are too inept to do the job our Constitution requires them to do when it comes to Obama’s lawlessness. It has even reached the presidential race.

Mike Huckabee, who is openly calling for the elimination of the IRS and recently called them a “criminal enterprise,” pulled no punches in his analysis of the DOJ and the IRS:

“I don’t think any of us are that surprised. The Justice Department is very selective in how they pursue criminal charges. What they are good at, what the IRS is good at, is harassing Americans who are innocent.”

During the investigation, the IRS made numerous claims about how they had lost many of the emails to and from Lerner; a claim that Huckabee also commented on:

It’s stunning to me that this very IRS that demands I keep every receipt so if they audit me, I have proof that I really paid what I said I paid. But they can lose an entire hard drive’s worth of emails and correspondence and that somehow is perfectly OK … I just don’t buy it.”

And Huckabee concluded his thoughts with words that every American paying attention would agree with:

“There are two sets of rules in this country, one for those in power and one for all the rest of America who are getting screwed, screwed over by their government whether it’s in their taxes, whether it’s in the criminal justice system, and Americans are fed up with it.”

When you consider this incredible miscarriage of justice, it’s hard to argue with the GOP candidate. And it’s also hard to conclude anything but this: Obama’s Department of Justice has essentially given carte blanche to the IRS, and any other government agency for that matter, to target his political enemies.
