#NeverTrump: It’s not just a hashtag anymore

#NeverTrump

As you may know by now, based on recent commentaries, I’m no fan of Donald Trump for president. And it turns out an ever-increasing number of Conservatives feel the same way. Sure, we’re tired of the way the Republican party, led by the likes of Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan—before him John Boehner—have used lies and deceit to steal our votes. But that doesn’t mean we are going to take the first anti-establishment candidate that comes down the road.

You’ve heard of Trumpmentum? Apparently, a wave of anti-Trumpmentum is growing across America.

Tea Party favorite, Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE), posted on his Twitter account a poignant and rather heartfelt response to the question, “Who (he would) support between Trump and Hillary?” His answer? Neither of them! And he further stated that he’d look for a third candidate—a conservative option—a constitutionalist.

Sasse further posted a lengthy explanation of this position on his Facebook page, detailing how Trump is a lot like Obama when it comes to Constitutional understanding—a sentiment that I fully agree with. He also drew another comparison to Obama:

“The law is king and the people are the boss. But have you noticed that Trump uses the word reign like he’s running for king? Nebraskans aren’t looking for a king. We are instead for the recovery of a constitutional republic.”

This past weekend, Jeff Sessions (R-AL) left the conservatives and joined the Judas Caucus when he endorsed Trump over Ted Cruz. Why do I call it the Judas Caucus? Because Cruz is the man Sessions once gave full credit for stopping Rubio’s Gang of Eight amnesty plan for illegals. Since illegal immigration is important to Sessions, you would have thought it would be Cruz he endorsed. So it’s no small thing when another senator not only refuses to endorse Trump, but declares his intention to support a third-party.

One aspect of the conservative uprising against Trump has been the rise of #NeverTrump which was strongly trending over the weekend and heavily promoted by Erick Erickson at TheResurgent.com.

In a post over the weekend, The Importance of Disclosing This Immediately, he laid out the importance for conservatives, right now, that Trump should not receive our votes, and why he shouldn’t. And he concluded:

“If Trump supporters choose to proceed, history will show they will never concede—his defeat will be on them, not us. With the rise of an authoritarian menace to our republic, it’s important to go on record now, while he can still be stopped, that we will play no part in his rise.”

America stands on the precipice of her very survival, and we can’t afford to get this one wrong.

#NeverTrump means that Donald Trump is wrong!
