Liberals ban the word Christmas in the name of tolerance

Christmas a bad wordAt this time of the year, we are often reminded about the never-ending assault on the Christian faith by the liberal left. It intensifies in December because it is the time of year that Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ on Christmas Day. One of the most common tactics is to attempt to eliminate the word “Christmas” from the American lexicon. Two examples hit the news recently.

In New Jersey, a councilwoman, Charlene Storey, resigned her seat over a decision to change the name of an annual tree-lighting ceremony to “Christmas” tree, saying the phrase wrongfully inserts religion into what was a secular holiday event.

OK, now get this. Christmas is a NATIONAL holiday, for which she most likely enjoys as a paid day off. But in her world, using the word Christmas infringes on a non-existent secular holiday. In a statement, she said:

“I like Christmas trees and the happy spirit that usually pervades this season. But the mayor proposed, and most of the council voted, to change a key word in the name of the borough’s annual tree lighting event from a neutral, inclusive term back to a religious one.”

Even though she claims to have made her decision based “on a matter of conscience and principle,” Charlene rescinded her resignation after the mayor offered her the opportunity to create and head up a diversity committee.

Apparently she has no conscience, and her principles are for sale. But wait! There’s more!

The University of Mississippi has decided to change the name of its annual “A Grand Old Christmas” to “Hotty Toddy Holiday.” And they also changed the annual Christmas tree lighting event to a simple “tree lighting.”

Speaking for the Student Activities Association, Kay Maye said:

“We really wanted to kind of like, change the atmosphere from last year and that would explain the name change. ‘Grand Old Christmas’ was just — it connoted too much Christianity on campus and so we wanted to have a more inclusive environment for the holidays this year.”

Maye also stated that the goal was to attract “a more mature audience” with the newly revamped theme.

By the way, the name “Hotty Toddy Holiday” comes from the “Hotty Toddy” chant used at football games during tailgating parties. The full chant goes like this: “Hotty Toddy, gosh almighty, who the hell are we? Hey! Flim flam, bim bam, Ole Miss, by damn.”

Yeah, that’s much less offensive than using the word Christmas.
