Happy Independence Day – Time For A Little Rebellion

In light of recent happenings with Robertscare Obamacare and the Supreme Court, it would be easy to get discouraged about the loss of liberty in America, and I have to admit that I’ve been in that camp since then.

As Glenn Beck is known for saying, “One day you’ll wake up and you won’t recognize the country you live in.” That about sums up my feelings.

But, it’s time for feelings of sadness and dispair to come to an end! It’s time to remember what we celebrate every July 4th! It’s time to reclaim our lost liberty. It’s time to remember what our Founding Fathers declared in the Declaration of Independence:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,

That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

We can do this. It can begin in November. Vote for candidates who commit to returning America to her Constitutional roots. Vote out anyone who refuses to do so – regardless of party affiliation. Refuse to settle for “politics-as-usual” and insist on real change, and not the hype and change we were fed by the current occupant of the White House.

Here’s a little pep talk for us “small government, individual rights, personal responsiblity, old school, constitution-loving, knuckle-dragging neanderthals” from Bill Whittle and Firewall:

I close with the words of Thomas Jefferson in his letter to James Madison in defense of the sometimes violent resistance America was experiencing during Shay’s Rebellion – which coincidentally, was the result of higher taxes and a far away, unresponsive government.

Is it me, or does that sound eerily familiar right now?

I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical. . . .  It is a medicine necessary for the sound health of government. (emphasis mine)

I think it’s about time, don’t you?
