Happy birthday Ronald Reagan – A true Conservative

ReaganCowboyThe 40th President of the United States, Ronald Wilson Reagan was born 103 years ago today. As I consider the man who many believe was the greatest President of the 20th century, I am struck by how similar America is today to the America that brought us the Gipper.

Jimmy Carter destroyed the economy with over-regulation just like Obama is today. Carter’s energy policies drove up the cost of gasoline and utilities just like Obama’s energy policies are. Carter created one of the worst economies in U.S. history, and Obama has done the same. Carter left office as one of the worst Presidents in American history; Obama is well on his way to securing that title.

Just like it took a true Conservative like Ronald Reagan to turn the tide, it will take true Conservatives to turn the socialist tide sweeping the nation under Obama. Sadly, Washington D.C. is lacking in this department.

Sure, there are the few bright spots. We have Conservatives like Ted Cruz (R-TX), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Rand Paul (R-KY) in the Senate, along with dozens of Conservatives in the House of Representatives (see the top 25 here), but it’s going to take many, many more before we will have the numbers necessary to seize the reigns from the Progressives. The Senate Conservatives Fund has a list of Senate and House candidates they are endorsing. I invite you to check it out.

And America needs a genuine, dyed-in-the-wool Conservative to win the White House in 2016. The run-of-the-mill RINO WIMP won’t cut it anymore.

If America is to have any chance of regaining the America envisioned by our Founding Fathers, we must do all we can to rid Washington of the big government politicians in both parties. We need to replace compromise with conviction, pretense with purpose, reluctance with resoluteness.

Today is Ronald Reagan’s birthday. Let’s celebrate it by committing ourselves to doing all we can to make America great once again. As he said on the eve of the Presidential election in 2004:

“The greatness of America doesn’t begin in Washington; it begins with each of you—in the mighty spirit of free people under God, in the bedrock values you live by each day in your families, neighborhoods, and work-places. Each of you is an individual worthy of respect, unique and important to the success of America. And only by trusting you, giving you opportunities to climb high and reach for the stars, can we preserve the golden dream of America as the champion of peace and freedom among the nations of the world.”

While Reagan took the responsibilities of his job very seriously, he was also known as a man with a great sense of humor. As a special way of remembering him, I found a video that contains some of his funniest moments. I hope you enjoy them.

Happy birthday, Mr. President!
