At least, that’s the position taken by her Highness, Princess Pelosi.
“Wall Street profiteering, not oil shortages, is the cause of the price spike,” she said Wednesday. “Unfortunately, Republicans have chosen to protect the interests of Wall Street speculators and oil companies instead of the interests of working Americans by obstructing the agencies with the responsibility of enforcing consumer protection laws.”
Presumably, she means oil traders. But that would include everyone from major oil companies to average individual investors.
Pelosi urged Congress to take “strong action” against excessive speculation.
It’s important that she deflect the blame from oil supplies, since Obama has done just about everything under the sun to prevent any growth in domestic oil markets.
However, this is significantly different from her position when gas prices were climbing when Bush was President:
“Drivers are paying a heavy price for the Bush administration’s failure to enact a comprehensive energy strategy,” Pelosi said.
“Years of Bush Administration’s policies that have favored big oil over the consumers have resulted in record dependence on foreign oil, leaving American families and businesses to pay even higher prices.”
Pelosi continued, “This Congress, under the Democratic leadership, is working to make up for years of inaction, taking America in a new direction that helps bring down the cost of gas and promotes energy independence. Energy independence is essential, essential to reducing the price at the pump.”
Hey Nancy! Mission NOT-Accomplished!
So, don’t worry America. High gas prices under Bush were the fault of the Republican President, and high prices under Obama are the fault of the Republicans in Congress.
But, they are NOT Obama’s fault.
