Congressional Black Caucus wants Obama to create new Gestapo

Newsweek Police State

Yeah, I know what you’re thinking; there goes the Strident Conservative again on another one of his anti-Obama conspiracy theories. Well hang on to your Constitutions folks, because the flying fecal matter could be just about to hit the fan.

Do you remember all the way back in 2008 when Barack Obama said this?

Almost sounds like a national police force, doesn’t it? Of course, a national police force would need a national police chief, right? Well, guess what the Congressional Black Caucus, civil rights leaders, religious leaders, unions, and many others just petitioned Obama to do. They are calling for a “Police Czar” to federalize your local police department.

In an open letter published Monday, civil rights leaders and black politicians called on President Barack Obama and the Justice Department to take “immediate action” to implement policy changes to local law enforcement in the wake of the fatal shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. The letter, posted on the The Washington Post’s website, outlines a series of demands, including:

  1. De-militarizing the police.
  2. Compelling police departments to adopt personnel practices that result in greater diversity.
  3. Creation of a federal czar “specifically tasked with promoting the professionalization of local law enforcement.”

I don’t believe they will have much success with #1, considering Obama’s commitment spelled out in the video above, along with his track record on the subject so far. Obama has ordered a review of the policies that allow police departments to buy surplus military gear, but if that review is anything like his reviews he has ordered to investigate the IRS scandal, NSA spying, and Benghazi, any chance of granting this one doesn’t look too good.

#2 stands a decent chance of seeing the light of day. Diversity, which is code for forced hiring of people based on race, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, etc.—isn’t that supposed to be against the law?—has already been a favorite of Obama and Holder. I don’t see any reason why an Executive Order or two couldn’t be used to “make it so” (apologies to Captain Picard).

But what about demand #3? Would the President who created more “czars” in his first year in office than any President in history actually create a Police Czar—a move that would NOT require Congressional approval—to become a sort of national police chief? When you consider his record-breaking violations of the Constitution, the answer to that question is frighteningly uncertain.

America already has the Department of Homeland Security, thanks to George W. Bush, and we’ve witnessed their power grow to unbelievable liberty-killing levels, including last year’s revelation of their spying on T.E.A. Party groups who were protesting Obama and the IRS scandal. What abuses of government power could we witness if our local police were to have the same mandate from the White House?

In the days of Nazi Germany, Hitler had the Gestapo. It eventually grew to become a national police force through centralizing control and integrating all of Germany’s police and intelligence organizations in 1939.

In the days of Ferguson, MO., Obama may create a new Gestapo.
