Can we trust McConnell with the Supreme Court vacancy?

Mitch McConnell Liar LiarThis past weekend, America received the sad news that Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia passed away in his sleep at the age of 79. And as America mourns the passing of the man appointed by Ronald Reagan in 1986, who was considered by Democrats and Republicans alike as the strident conservative voice of the high court—in other words, he was an “originalist” concerning the Constitution—there are those on the extreme left, led by Obama, who want to seize this moment as an opportunity to replace him with someone who will embrace the fundamental transformation agenda of our socialist-in-chief.

One need look no further than his previous nominees, Elena Kagan and Sonia Sotomeyor, to know what character traits—or lack thereof—Obama will consider important to hold office in the high court. And if he were to succeed in nominating, and the Senate approve, someone like either of these judicial activists to replace Scalia, the balance of the court would take a decided shift to a 5-4 liberal majority.

Why is this important? Because our constitutional rights literally hang in the balance. One need look no further than the Second Amendment to know how true this is. For example, in the case of the District of Columbia v. Heller heard in 2008, the Supremes ruled 5-4 in favor of the right to bear arms. Replace Scalia with an Obama liberal, and we could see a day when the court could rule 5-4 against that right, equipping the federal government with the legal authority to disarm America. In addition, we would likely see our First Amendment rights repealed as well, particularly Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Religion.

Of course, we will hear from lefties like Chuck Schumer about how this course of action is a gross dereliction of duty on the part of the Republicans; an ironic claim considering how Chuckster the Huckster advocated the same thing during George W. Bush’s last year in office when W had more time left to his term than Obama has in his.

We need to support folks like Senator Ted Cruz who say that the Senate owes it to the American people to let the next president nominate Scalia’s replacement, and Mitch McConnell has gone on record supporting.such an approach. But with a well-established track record of spineless capitulation to Obama and his agenda, I find it quite hard to put any faith in him that he will do as he says.

I hope I’m wrong, but I simply don’t trust him to keep his word!
