On Monday we received the news of another terrorist attack, this time in Brussels, where dozens have been killed and hundreds more have been wounded. Much to no one’s surprise, ISIS has claimed responsibility for the heinous act.
In the aftermath of this incident, our political leaders—a phrase that becomes more of an oxymoron with each passing day—spent their camera time trying their best to let us know how we should respond to this event while tripping over themselves to avoid any appearance of politically-incorrect speech.
And there’s the rub. Islamic terrorism will remain a threat as long as we are more concerned about being politically-correct than we are about protecting and defending America.
I have to wonder if there are any real leaders in America willing to echo the words of Pete Hoekstra, the former House Intelligence Committee Chairman when he told Newsmax TV after the Brussels attack:
“This is an all-out war and the west does not realize it.”
Heck, even the French Prime Minister was able to acknowledge this obvious fact.
The two leading Republican candidates for president chimed in on how they might deal with the situation.
Donald Trump
- On the day of the attacks, Trump called for America to essentially abandon NATO — I guess he doesn’t think we’ll need our NATO allies to fight this enemy.
- In an interview with FOX News yesterday, he called for suspending the acceptance of Muslim refugees until the dust settled, an opinion he has expressed often during his campaign.
- A few hours later, in an interview with CBS he not only flip-flopped, he denied ever saying the words.
- Later on NBC he expressed his support of illegal waterboarding and “a lot more,” whatever that means.
Ted Cruz
- In an interview with CNN on Tuesday, Cruz challenged Trump on his plan to abandon NATO, reminding him that Brussels is the location of NATO headquarters.
- In an official statement, Cruz also called for suspending Muslim immigration until the dust settled, and
- He also suggested empowering local law enforcement to increase surveillance of Muslim neighborhoods “before they become radicalized,” earning criticism from the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).
As Ted Cruz so aptly stated on Tuesday, we don’t need another lecture from Obama on Islamophobia.
In the end, what we really need to understand is this: Obama’s pro-Muslim, left-wing, radical, pacifist view of Islamic terrorism—a term he won’t even use—isn’t wrong and deadly.
This is war! We need to fight it! And we need to fight to win!
