Last week, I wrote about how universities in America and around the world are taking their war against free speech to places once thought unimaginable. Using Orwellian tactics, words as common as “housewife” and “mankind” have been deemed offensive and as a result are considered hate speech.
The use of such politically correct speech designed to protect the fragile sensitivities of the snowflake generation isn’t restricted to our college campuses, however. Under Barack Obama, the military became a test tube to promote “diversity” in the ranks. After all, how can we expect the troops to protect liberty and freedom if they don’t first take the necessary steps to do all they can to not hurt the feelings of others?
Just think; we used to teach our children that “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.”
Todd Starnes is reporting that Airmen at Joint Base San Antonio—can we say airman or airmen anymore?—recently received an email from a senior Air Force leader containing a list of dubious words and phrases considered offensive and are, therefore, prohibited both on and off the job.
“Please be cognizant that such conduct is 100% zero tolerance in or outside of the work climate. Let’s capitalize on our richly diverse climate, and help others seek assistance if they are struggling with compliance.”
And what are some of these “zero tolerance” words? As Glenn Beck would say, “Get ready for blood to shoot out of your eyeballs.” Here are just a few examples:
- Boy
- Girl
- You people
- Colonial
- Black list
- Blackmail
- Blackball
- Sounds Greek to me
- Blondes have more fun
- Too many chiefs, not enough Indians.
Let me state here and now, that as a Denver Bronco’s fan, I always think there are too many Chiefs. For that matter, there’s too many Raiders and too many Chargers. But on a serious note, being politically correct is a direct assault on the Constitution, and if we have reached the day that words like “boy” or “girl” are considered hate speech, I’d say the assault has dealt a devastating blow to our freedom of speech.
